Crap That Female Writers Have Top Put Up With

A few weeks ago, tech journalist Annalee Newitz noticed (with delight) that one of her columns had been slashdotted. But when she went to check out the thread, she was disappointed to see that most comments had more to do with her body than her body of work -- something many female tech writers experience with some regularity.

Guys, what difference does it make whether she is hot or not so hot? The underlying fact is that in either case, you ain't getting, so live with the fact that she is a great writer and can put 90% of men to shame when it comes to writing. So respect her for what she demonstrates and what you can see and feel and read ... her excellent writing skills, and quit worrying about her looks which 90% of you will never get to see and 99.9999% will never get to feel.

Museum Bans Fall Guy

A man who smashed three 17th century vases when he tripped in a museum was barred from seeing experts' attempts to fix them.

Nick Flynn, 42, tumbled down stairs and landed on the Qing dynasty porcelain vases, which were on display on a window sill.

2 Brothers Killed In Seperate Traffic Crashes Minutes Apart

Two brothers died in car crashes about 15 minutes and several kilometres apart.

Rory McDowell, 23, lost control of his pickup truck coming out of a curve and the vehicle struck a tree shortly before 1:30 a.m., authorities said.

About 15 minutes later, 21-year-old Cory McDowell's car veered off another rural road, went into a spin, struck a tree and burst into flames, authorities said.

Bride-To-Be Shot Down By Terrorists In Kashmir

A 20-year-old girl was shot dead just a night before her wedding along with her mother and a neighbour in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district.

The incident occurred late Wednesday when a group of terrorists opened indiscriminate fire at two adjoining houses in Mahakund village in the district, about 200 km north of Jammu, said army spokesperson Lt Col D K Badola.

The attack killed Shagufta Bee, 20, her mother Fatu Begum, 40, and neighbour, Abdul Aziz. Shagufta was to get married Thursday, Badola said.

Drink Tequila, Win 10,000 Pesos and Die

The 21-year-old winner of a competition to drink the most tequila died on Monday and three other contestants were gravely ill in the hospital, officials said.

Ricardo Ivan Garcia drank more than 50 shots of tequila on Sunday night at Santo Domingo's Blanc, Dance and Lounge discotheque to win the prize of 10 000 pesos (about R2 000) at a Mexican night celebration.

But he had taken ill, and rushed to hospital where he died within hours, apparently from heart failure brought on by alcohol poisoning, said public prosecutor Jose Hernandez Peguero.

Three other contestants remained in serious condition in the hospital, family members said.
