Patient 'Lost' For Three Days In Elevator

A hospital patient was trapped for more than three days in a broken lift after sneaking away from his bed for a cigarette.

Relatives, hospital staff and police searched for days after wheelchair-bound Karlheinz Schmidt, 68, went missing from the Charite Hospital in Berlin.

It was only when technicians were finally called out to fix a broken lift that the severely dehydrated man was found - 80 hours after first getting into the lift.

Teachers Quit After Students Witness Sex

Two middle school teachers resigned after students saw them having sex in a classroom, the school district said.

Frances J. Sepulveda, 30, and Bryant J. Wilburn, 29, said they had sex in the classroom during school hours on "one or two occasions," according to an investigation by the Hillsborough County school district.

Would-Be Robber Asks Bank How To Do It

A would-be Japanese bank robber asked staff how he should carry out the crime before meekly obeying a request to leave and then accidentally stabbing himself in the leg with a knife he was carrying.

The 58-year-old unemployed man went into a branch of the Saitama Resona Bank in the town of Kumagaya, north of Tokyo, on Wednesday, intending to rob it, a police spokesman said.

According to local media reports the man first asked a bank teller, "Any idea how you rob a bank?" The teller alerted another member of staff, who asked the man to leave.

Drunk & Driving Against Traffic - In A Stolen Car

Officers were dumbfounded when they stopped a Polish woman drunk at the wheel of a stolen car, driving on the wrong side of a motorway and without a license, German police said Tuesday.

"I don't think I've ever encountered such an accumulation of traffic offences," said Helmuth Klinger, a police spokesman in the western city of Wiesbaden.

Bank Robber Stopped For Pancakes

A Pennsylvania man who robbed a bank and escaped with more than £2,000 was caught after he stopped for pancakes.

Police said the man, from Bensalem, might have got away after the raid on a Bank of America had he not stopped for a snack.

Kimberly Sermarini, a waitress at the Sunrise Diner, told NBC10.com: "He came in and he was ordering pancakes off the kids' menu. And the next thing you know we're surrounded by cops and he ran into the bathroom.

Police Commissoner Robs Bank

A German police commissioner has been arrested for robbing a bank near his police station.

The 52-year-old was caught after using his girlfriend's car as a getaway vehicle.

The senior officer, who has not been named for legal reasons, stormed into the bank in Trier, Rhineland-Pfalz, wearing a mask and brandishing a gun.

He demanded the branch manager hand over the cash and escaped in a car which was later found abandoned.

Man Tries To Sell Baby To Pay For Home Improvements

 A Wisconsin man raising his 18-month-old daughter alone tried to sell the little girl for $7,000 so he could make improvements to his house, police said Friday.

 

The Ashwaubenon man tried to sell his daughter to a Grand Chute couple, who helped authorities in the investigation, Grand Chute Police Chief Ed Kopp said. "He was having difficulties raising the child alone and wanted to use the money for some home remodelling," Kopp said.

Serbian Prisoner Sews Lips And Tongue To Avoid Court Hearing In Robbery Case

A Serbian prisoner using needle, thread and safety pins stitched his lips and tongue together to avoid a scheduled court hearing in his robbery case, the Blic newspaper reported Saturday.

Zoran Raskovic, 27, in custody at Belgrade's central prison, is one of six people charged with a 2003 bank heist in the central Serbian town of Mladenovac, when the group allegedly made away with the equivalent of about $153,000 Cdn.

German Sues Easter Bunny

A German man has taken legal action against the Easter Bunny for grievous bodily harm.

Karl-Friedrich Lentze, from Berlin, has filed a complaint with prosecutors, accusing it of causing addiction to chocolate which leads to heart attacks, obesity and strokes.

Lentze said: "The Easter Bunny is a sadistic and unscrupulous offender who preys on people's sweet tooth.
