China's Death Buses

The country that executed more than four times as many convicts as the rest of the world combined last year is slowly phasing out public executions by firing squad in favor of lethal injections. Unlike the United States and Singapore, the only two other countries where death is administered by injection, China metes out capital punishment from specially equipped "death vans" that shuttle from town to town.

Executions in death vans are recorded on video and audio that is played live to local law enforcement authorities - a measure intended to ensure they are carried out legally.

$100 Hamburger

A hundred bucks might buy you more than six dozen burgers from McDonald's, but the the swanky Old Homestead Steakhouse will sell you one brawny beef sandwich for the same price.

Boca Raton Mayor Steven Abrams could barely speak between bites as he devoured the 20-ounce, $100 hamburger billed as the "beluga caviar of sandwiches."

06/06/06 baby born at 6.06am!

A proud mother says it is "spooky" her baby son was born on the dreaded 06/06/2006.

But Gemma Newton, and partner Ben McIntyre, 25, were even more shocked when 10lb 5oz Bobby, was born at 6.06am.

The former Darrick Wood pupil is brushing off concerns about the date and time and is just happy he was born a healthy child after being in labour, ironically, for six hours.

Man Pays Speeding Ticket 52 Years Later

Better late than never.

That's how a British man felt about paying a speeding ticket he received in Philadelphia's Fairmount Park nearly 52 years ago.

Park officials received a letter and a five-pound note this week from John Gedge, who's now 84 and living in a nursing home in East Sussex, England.

Five pounds was worth about $14 in 1954, and about $9 today.

Indian Food Flown To World Cup For English Fans

A group of curry-mad England fans are paying £1,600 to have a takeaway flown out from home to Germany.

Bath restaurant Bombay Nights is sending out the meal in time for the end of the England's match against Trinidad and Tobago.

Their customers are dance musicians Opposite Worlds who asked for the curry to be sent to their hotel in Munich.

Bombay Nights manager Abdul Nasir, 32, will fly out with the meal in a cool bag, reports the Sun Online.

Patient 'Lost' For Three Days In Elevator

A hospital patient was trapped for more than three days in a broken lift after sneaking away from his bed for a cigarette.

Relatives, hospital staff and police searched for days after wheelchair-bound Karlheinz Schmidt, 68, went missing from the Charite Hospital in Berlin.

It was only when technicians were finally called out to fix a broken lift that the severely dehydrated man was found - 80 hours after first getting into the lift.

Baa, Baa Black Sheep Blacklisted

An Indian state has removed nursery rhymes such as "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" and "Baa Baa Black Sheep" from its primary school syllabus because they are "too Western," newspapers said Wednesday.

The government in the central state of Madhya Pradesh, run by the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party, dropped the rhymes, immensely popular with millions of Indian children, from its Class I syllabus taught to five-year-olds.

Deputy Fired for Filming Girls in Bikinis

A Martin County sheriff's review board found just cause in the firing of a former deputy who was relieved of duty for using his patrol car's dashboard-mounted camera to film bikini-clad girls at the beach.

Jack Munsey was fired Jan. 30 after an internal investigation found his behavior was not criminal but violated department policies. Munsey had sought reinstatement.

Teachers Quit After Students Witness Sex

Two middle school teachers resigned after students saw them having sex in a classroom, the school district said.

Frances J. Sepulveda, 30, and Bryant J. Wilburn, 29, said they had sex in the classroom during school hours on "one or two occasions," according to an investigation by the Hillsborough County school district.
